Electrophoresis:

When a colloidal solution is placed in an electric field, colloidal particles move towards either positive or negative electrode depending upon their charge. This migration of colloidal particles under the influence of an electric field towards an electrode is called electrophoresis. If the movement of colloidal particle is towards cathode, it is called Cataphoresis. The apparatus consists of a U-tube with two platinum electrodes in each limb shown below.
