Nylon-6,6

Nylon-6,6 is prepared by the polymerization of monomers, hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid.

n H₂N-(CH₂)₆-NH₂ + n HOOC-(CH₂)₄-COOH ——-> — [—NH-(CH₂)₆-NH-CO-(CH₂)₄-CO—]_n Hexamethylenediamine     adipic acid                                                               Nylon–66     + nH₂O

Uses:

Nylon-66 is used-

1) In making bristles for brushes.

2) In the manufacture of cords and climbing ropes.

3) For making sheets and textiles.
