Essential and Non-essential Amino Acids

Certain amino acids can be made by our bodies and therefore and we do not require them in our diet. These are called non-essential amino acids. The human bodies can synthesis 10 out of 20 amino acids found in proteins. Therefore, other must be supplied to our diet and these are called essential amino acids. The 10 essential amino acids are valine, leucine, isoleucine, arginine, lysine, threonine, methionine, phenylalanine, tryptophan and histidine. Lack of these essential amino acids in diet cane cause diseases such as kwashiorkor.
